Košice – October 2026 – On the first October Weekend, the Košice Peace Marathon (Medzinárodný maratón mieru) once again transformed the Eastern Slovakian city into a vibrant festival of running. Founded in 1924, the Košice Peace Marathon is the oldest marathon in Europe and holds prestigious World Athletics Gold Label status. More than 17,000 athletes from all over the world participated over the weekend across various categories—ranging from the full marathon (42.195 km) and relay races to inline skating and handbike events.

A standout moment of the weekend was the visit of marathon legend Horst Milde, founder of the world-famous Berlin Marathon, who visited the booth together with his wife Sabine. Symbolizing "Tradition meets Innovation," this high-profile visit by the pioneer of German mass sports showcased the strong international appeal of the event and the company's local involvement.
High Energy and Community Spirit
The weekend kicked off on Saturday with the U.S. Steel Family Run, bringing more than 4,500 children, families, and casual runners to the streets of Košice’s historic city center. The day concluded with the ceremonial lighting of the marathon flame at Námestie Maratónu mieru. On Sunday, the main races set off along the central Hlavná ulica against the backdrop of St. Elisabeth Cathedral, supported by thousands of cheering spectators creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
