VR Resolver
VR: Variable Reluctance Type
A resolver is an angle sensor based on electromagnetic induction:
- Absolute positioning of the resolver eliminates the need for referencing.
- Fitted coils provide a magnetic field and allow to sense the rotational angle of the rotor in the stator.
- External electronics excite the input coils by an alternating current.
- On the receiving coils an output voltage proportional to the rational angle between rotor and stator can be detected.
- Stator and rotor built consist of electro-magnetic steel sheets, which can be customized on request.
Usage
For Automotive typically used for:
- Electric motors (e-motors) for full electric vehicles (EV) or hybrid electric vehicles (HEV)
- Angular positioning of rotor / shaft of an e-motor
- Determining of commutation timing
- Rotational positioning of functional shafts, e.g. Electric Power Steering (EPS)
- Determining the absolute shaft position
